Naturally a born food fanatic, I have made it my mission to sample the best food a city has to offer. This time my nose followed me to Mooli , a little Filipino Restaurant on the GC (Gold Coast) on Mermaid Beach.
Having lived in Cebu until I left for my OE in the Land Down Under my palate‘s developed a taste for rich foods typical of the West and Australasia where cheese and butter are staples and potatoes rule the dinner table. Too much calories for a small person like me but that soon changed when I realised that resistance was futile – the offerings were just too good to resist. For years I gorged on dairy, meat, pastries and quickly learnt that Tea is not only a drink but refers to mealtimes – morning/ afternoon tea (merienda) and dinner as well.
Filipino food is so much tastier when you are actually in the Philippines. Let me describe it like this -imagine a serving of squid in black ink over hot steaming rice. Wouldn’t that scream – weird? Aha not for the initiated foodie. If you were born eating it, then it must be good for you (says your mother, right? ). Yummo – the taste of nukos (squid in black ink ) is still imbedded in my mind that I dream about it ever so often.
So to rediscover your childhood Filipino faves here on the Gold Coast and fill that craving visit Mooli at 6-2529 Gold Coast Highway, Mermaid Beach 4218 , ph 55756974. Serving the famous Cebu lechon everyday together with other delights like adobpinakbet, caldereta, sinigang, bangus, dinuguan and much much more.
Mooli will be at the Philippine Festival 22 June 2014 at Broadwater from 10am - 4pm. Happy Independence Day, Mabuhay ang Pinoy! See you there...
